Off to The Rally to Restore Sanity

In support of more civility and sanity in our nations tone I'm off to DC with 18 other Senior Activist to attend the Jon Stewart/Steven Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity/Fear.
I'm meeting this group for the first time at the Amtrak station in Savannah tonight for the overnight train ride...arriving Union Station at 7 am then off to the Mall returning Saturday night.
Each election cycle seems to become more expensive, divisive and mean spirited. How have we gotten to this point where spinning the worst  of someone gets more attention than what the candidate pledges to do or promises to achieve.
So I look forward to being with like minded folks that are not the SHOUTERS, but the thinkers. The Americans that know there are enough of us that  look beyond the spin before we make our voting decisions.
Hope to have some fun as well....ps I love DC

Ready to Travel again , Reactivated Travel Blog

November 12, 2015

It's been a while since I sat down to write in my travel blog. The last three years have changed me. I lost my mother in 2014. The dearest, sweetest woman anyone could ever know. Truly the closest thing to an earth angel. So most of my travel since the Camino was to Weirton WV.

Last year I turned the magic age of...( you can probably guess) and spent my birthday as I always dreamt it to be at an outside cafe in Rome Italy surrounded by my children, friends and family. There were 17 of us in all . Italian music appeared out of nowhere playing Happy Birthday along with vintage Italian accordian tunes.

We finished the night at my cousin's villa on his terrace .

A wonderful memory I will always cherish.

In a few weeks I am taking a Viking River Cruise mainly to experience European Christmas Markets.
We start in Paris for two nights, then travel through south west Germany on the Rhine River ending in Nuremberg then to Prague for a few days then home.

I have devised an escape plan from the cruise if it gets boring. I'm thinking of leaving the cruise for a couple of days flying from Frankfurt to Rome staying with my cousin Achille the heading to Prague to pick up the tour at the end.

Always need an escape plan :-)

So my travel blog has been reactivated. Here's hoping there are many adventures to follow.  Thanks for reading.

Weekend in the mountains of North Carolina.

My sister Diane is thinking of renting a cottage in the mountains for the summer of 2011. I accompanied her this past weekend to explore. About 6 hours NW of Hilton Head right over the SC border you find the tail end of the Appalachian Mountains and the rolling hills I remember from my home state of West Virginia. The air was cool, leaves changing color and pumpkin /apple stands lined the highways.  We toured the towns of Asheville, Hendersonville and Brevard.  From the quaint mains streets to the elaborate Grove Park Inn.  I think she’ll like it there.

Conditioning

Everyone that knows me understands my disinterest in exercise. Not that I don't believe it is a healthy form of activity or that it doesn't make you feel better, live longer and have pink cheeks. It just doesn't seem to agree with me.
On the other hand to be somewhat ready for more walking activity that I may experience in Haiti I'm forcing myself to exercise. Yoga program on early morning TV, joining Curves again and going on a trip to the mountains.
My sister Diane is taking me for a weekend trip to the mountains of South Carolina to look at some property, but I know her and she will probably drag me to some trail under the guise of looking at nature to get me moving. It's all good...right?

Back Story

After the earthquake in Haiti my sister Diane and I created a community initiative to assist an orphanage in Haiti. We collected almost 500 backpacks and filled them with new clothes a hygiene packet and school supplies. We engaged community leaders, schools, local businesses, homeschoolers, family and friends.
The backpacks were boxed and shipped to a warehouse in New Jersey where they awaited being put in a container for a boat  that would eventually get to Haiti and eventually to Bon Rapos were they would be distributed. There have been delays and more delays in the shipment, but I have been reassured they will be in Haiti soon.

Through a friend Diane found Day Springs Ministries and their NJ Director Carol Hawthorne. She oversees the orphanage in Haiti www.DayspringMinistriesHaiti.org

I have volunteered to visit Haiti with the next group that is going from Day Spring and will leave November 12, 2010
